Qualifications:

  • MSN or MSN-Nursing Education 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in specialty required
  • Experience in education or staff development required
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Preferred:

  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development preferred
  • Completion of Clinical experience in NLN accredited school preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • CCRN Certification
  • BLS and ACLS
  • Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement

Scheduling Requirements:

Full time; 37.5 hours per week

Monday through Friday with shift flexibility to meet departmental needs

Essential Functions:

  • The Critical Care Nurse Educator is a registered professional nurse who has the expertise in both the critical care clinical setting and nursing professional development and education. Experience for this role includes an in-depth understanding and management of a wide scope of critically ill adult patients .  
  • The Critical Care Nurse Educator must have an in-depth understanding of the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice and the Association of Critical Care Nursing Standards. 
  • She/he is a member of the Nursing Leadership team and supports the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values, and actively participates in the shared governance process.
  • She/he is responsible and accountable for the development and application of the Standards of Care and policies and procedures of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center-RWJBH, in an effort to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and families.
  • The primary function is that of an educator, practitioner, consultant and change agent.  Assesses data relevant to the learner’s progress, and interprets the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans.
  • The Critical Care Nurse Educator is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible to assess the educational needs of the staff on an on-going basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, fellow educators, management, allied professional employees and other healthcare providers. 
  • In addition to the aforementioned skills, the Critical Care Nurse Educator must possess clinical experience, training, and education aligned with their specialty practice area of focus.
  • The Critical Care Nurse Educator will assist in the onboarding, orientation and clinical practice evaluation of the RNs and professional employees in the Adult Critical Care setting.
  • The Nurse Educator will participate in the Nurse Residency Program.  
  • Qualified applicants for this role need demonstrated clinical competency in the Perioperative environment consistent with the Association of Critical Care Nursing Standards of Practice.  
  • The Nurse Educator may assist in other departments as clinically requested by nursing leadership. Demonstrated teaching ability is required for the position.
