Industrial Design Model Maker
We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Industrial Design (ID) Model Maker to join our Rapid Prototyping Technologies team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Industrial Design model making, a passion for hands-on craftsmanship, and the ability to translate digital concepts into tangible prototypes. A portfolio showcasing physical models and process documentation is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Interpret CAD files, drawings, and sketches to create high-fidelity physical models.
+ Select appropriate materials (plastics, metals, composites, etc.) based on design intent and functional requirements.
+ Construct detailed scale models using hand tools, power tools, and digital fabrication equipment.
+ Apply finishing techniques including sanding, painting, and detailing to achieve presentation-quality results.
+ Collaborate closely with Industrial Designers and Engineers to ensure models meet aesthetic and functional specifications.
+ Operate and maintain equipment such as 3D printers, CNC machines, lathes, and milling machines.
+ Perform quality checks and make necessary adjustments or repairs to models.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
+ Ensure timely delivery of models for design reviews, presentations, and client meetings.
Required Qualifications:
+ Proven experience in Industrial Design model making with a strong physical portfolio.
+ Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
+ Skilled in hand fabrication techniques and use of shop tools.
+ Strong understanding of materials, adhesives, and finishing processes.
+ Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
+ Experience with soft good prototyping
+ Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and 3D models.
+ Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Degree in Industrial Design, Fine Arts, Engineering, or a related field.
+ Experience with CNC programming and machining processes.
+ Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and their application in prototyping.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
