Senior Systems Administrator to support the
Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Inspector General (OIG). DHS (OIG) conducts and supervises independent audits, investigations, and inspections of the programs and operations of DHS, and recommends ways for DHS to carry out its responsibilities in the most effective, efficient, and economical manner possible. The Office of Management (OM) Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is responsible for acquiring and maintaining all technological hardware and software utilized by OIG personnel. This position is located at DHS OIG HQ – 395 E St. SW, Washington DC 20024.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Responsible for activities related to system administration.
- Assigns personnel to various projects, directs their activities, and evaluates their work.
- Ensures long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization.
- Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of computer software.
- Implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system.
Position Requirements: - Minimum of five (5) years of experience or equivalent work experience as a systems engineer/administrator
- Preference for a bachelor’s degree in computer science or IT-related field.
- Microsoft Operating systems, business applications, Office365 and Teams.
- Communicate with vendors as needed.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer preferred.
- Proficient in Windows Server 2012R2 or Higher.
- Proficient understanding of technology areas such as Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy and DFS.
- Fundamental understanding of authentication mechanisms such as Kerberos, LDAP and NTLM and use of necessary tools to troubleshoot them.
- Experience Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
- Strong knowledge of PowerShell and .NET scripting
- Analytical approach to solve complex problems in a complex, large-scale, and multi datacenter environments.
- Some programming and database knowledge preferred.
- A working understanding of firewalls, routing, switching, and other networking fundamentals.
