Under general supervision of the Information Technology Manager I (IT Mgr I) of zOS Storage, the Information Technology Associate (IT Assoc) may perform a variety of recurring, well-defined tasks requiring occasional innovative problem solving within guidelines and a scope that may encompass one or more-unit guidelines. The scope typically includes multiple program areas, and involves planning, developing, and implementing technological solutions that are essential to the missions of the overall organization, or affecting large numbers of people on a long-term or continuous basis.

The IT Assoc may serve in an entry level technical support, working as part of a team of highly trained professionals supporting software systems in a mainframe and client/server computing environment. Works independently or as a team member. Provides a variety of software support services for customer departments. Under the guidance of senior technical staff, installs, maintains, tests, monitors and tunes department wide zSystems Hardware, Operating Systems and/or general-purpose software products in the zSystem and client/server environments.

Assist in the development and maintenance of customized online and/or batch interfaces and exits to support software, under the guidance of senior technical staff. Monitor and validate the correctness of products’ functions and scheduled batch jobs. Provides consultation and support as needed to support the customer department staff in the use of the products that the unit supports. Quickly, efficiently, and effectively troubleshoot and resolve problems encountered with using the products supported by the unit and proactively identify possible future problems and solutions.

This position requires a knowledge of operating systems and related software as well as database software as implemented on the various hardware platforms. The IT Assoc must be familiar with the Desktop environment for desktop to effectively manage their work. The IT Assoc is a member of a highly skilled technical team of software specialists working to support various implementations of the database system and related software at the journey to advanced specialist level on multiple operating system platforms.

  • Knowledge of zSystem architecture and Storage concepts, components and processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of and experience with zSystem components, workloads, and utilities (e.g. JES2/JES3, TSO, ISPF, JCL, CLIST, REXX, SMF, RACF, SMP/E).
  • Knowledge of DFSMS.
  • Knowledge of zSystem Storage technologies; DASD, Virtual Tape, and Cloud.
  • Knowledge of Disaster/Operational Recovery.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software installations on zSystem platform.
  • Computer programming and scripting skills.
  • Knowledge of PC software tools such as MS Access, Excel, Word, HTML, etc.
  • Ability to work with a variety of technical and management staff as well as vendors and customers.  
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctuality and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workflow and projects
  • Problem solving, debugging, and analytical skills
